The sauna that comes to you: saunas on a trailer
Mount a barrel on a road-legal trailer and the sauna stops being fixed to one spot. A look at mobile saunas — for events, for rental income, or simply for following the view.

Most saunas put down roots. A trailer sauna doesn't. Bolt a barrel to a braked, road-legal trailer and you've got the whole ritual — wood stove, benches, that round window — ready to be towed wherever you want it. It's a genuinely different proposition, and it solves problems a fixed sauna simply can't.
Why put a sauna on wheels
- No foundation, no groundwork. The trailer is the base. Nothing to pour, nothing to prepare — you park it and light the stove.
- Follow the view. Lakeside in summer, driveway in winter, the coast for the weekend. The sauna goes where you are instead of the other way round.
- It can earn its keep. Mobile saunas have become a real small business — hired out for events, retreats, sports clubs, festivals and stag or hen weekends. The sauna that pays for itself is a mobile one.
- Take it with you. Move house, and it comes too. It's a vehicle, not a fixture.
The planning-permission question
Here's the part people like most. Because a trailer sauna is a road-going trailer rather than a building, it generally sits outside the planning rules that govern fixed garden structures — you're parking a vehicle, not constructing an outbuilding. That makes it an appealing route where a permanent sauna would be difficult, on a rented property, or simply when you don't want the commitment of something rooted in place.
Living with one
A mobile sauna is almost always wood-fired — no need to find a power supply at the lakeside — with a proper flue and heat shielding, exactly as the barrel in the photo above. You'll want a dry store of wood, a few minutes to level the trailer with its jockey wheel and legs when you arrive, and water on hand for löyly and for rinsing off. Set-up on site is minutes, not hours.
For plenty of people it's the most sensible sauna there is: all of the ritual, none of the groundwork, and the freedom to take the heat to wherever the view happens to be. Ask us about a trailer build — tell us your towing vehicle and how you'd use it, and we'll spec it to suit.
